Hi Math Concentration family,

My name is Wanda Collins. I am a middle school Math teacher at Crystal Lake Middle School. I have taught for 6 years and I am passionate about teaching. I have three beautiful children: Camia, Ciara, and Chris Jr. I love reading, browsing the internet, teaching, and learning new things.

I became a teacher because I wanted to inspire and obtain new knowledge...and I have. You will be surprised how much you can learn from children. I believe that every student has the power to access their full potential with the right tools and a little push. With that being said, I started our community to provide parents, teachers, and students a plethora of resources: math tutorials, classroom management techniques, chat room, blogs, and so much more.

I would love for you share with the community a little about yourself.

Wishing you all the best,

Wanda :)

Debbie Hewitt...I posted my bio in a different discussion, I didn't know if I was suppose to enter it as a reply to this one, or a new one...but the point is this, I have a daughter about to enter middle school, she seems to be doing well in Math, receives Silver medals, etc. It's the 17 yr Junior that I worry about...she (like myself) hates Math because it's difficult for her to grasp it, to follow along w/it and so much more...it's scary, she graduates next year...PSAT next week, ACT in December...I'm glad I stumbled across this site, I'm gonig to wander around the site, and hope that I can find things that can help her, or at least help me, to help her...
My names Alisha im 17 ans in my last year of high school. I like math and science and am trying to get good grades to one day become a teacher
Hiya! :) I'm Lois, a back to college student in her 30s. . . I love science, and that's what I'm trying to go for; just barely made it for my associates in Physics some 5-6 years ago. LOL Figured out that it wasn't working, and it finally fit me that it was right in front of my face that all these years I always liked planetary science a wee bit more than stellar astrophysics anyway (most particularly Mars), that I'm trying for Geology this time around. Already started a nice little rock collection. :) So, while I found this place because I also live for amazon.com gift certificates, science classes to have math in them, even the easier ones that I'm in now (until I can actually move on to a different college, but that's a long story LOL). :) Oh, and math was never my strong suit. So rather glad this forum exists. :)
I am glad to meet you guys. I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

Terri Dell - Mom of 2 older kids, aunt to 3 young ones. My daughter is 19 and a college junior having skipped 2nd grade. My Son does computer IT work. My nieces and nephews are in grade school in Switzerland and are fluent in English and French. Me: Math was always my favorite subject and I love working with computers.
Hi everyone Sherry Conrad here- the math dilemma we are currently facing with my youngest is that she's scored well on her ACT- enough to pretty much get scholarships wherever she wants and she's being recruited left and right, but- you saw that coming, right? she can't stand not being perfect and she got a couple wrong so wants to retake until it's perfect- and math is the only area she didn't get 100%.
Telling her to stop stressing, that she is loaded down already with the gt classes, work, volunteering, clubs & activities and an active social life does nothing, it's a personal have to be perfect thing- is there anything she should be studying in particular to help?
Hi - my name is Amanda and I recently joined!

Fun Math Facts:

Math Limerick

Question: Why is this a mathematical limerick?

( (12 + 144 + 20 + 3 Sqrt[4]) / 7 ) + 5*11 = 92 + 0 .

Answer:

A dozen, a gross, and a score,
plus three times the square root of four, divided by seven, plus five times eleven, is nine squared and not a bit more.

---Jon Saxton (math textbook author)
