Hot Question of the Week: How do you make cellphones work in your classroom?

I'm am a little uneasy about allowing my students to use cellphones in my classroom but I think if I can make it work than that would squelch my uneasiness. I recently read an article: "How…See More

Hot Question of the Week: What are some unconventional ways you teach math?

This day and age where students feel a sense of empowerment prevents us teachers from commanding respect. We can no longer demand our students to do their work and respect us. We have to reach Generation X and Generation Y (millennials) with diplomacy and innovations. Teachers who refuse to conform to the new…See More

About Me:
I get so much pleasure from seeing my students having fun and getting excited about math because many students usually find it a challenge. It is extremely rewarding to know you have made a difference in the life of a child. I love this quote because it resonates with me: "When we give with the expectation of receiving something in return, we are not really giving from a pure motive. But when we give from a generous heart, the joy of giving becomes its own reward." So, you see as long as I am a teacher I will continue to work tirelessly to make myself an asset to my students.

Although teaching is extremely rewarding, I sometimes find myself frustrated with the lack of resources at my disposal as well as my limitations in the classroom(55 minutes of class instruction time given). I created Math Concentration so teachers could share best practices and provide free/low cost resources like budget effective activities, incentives, math centers, classroom management strategies etc. Welcome to MathConcentration- a family community where students, parents, and teachers connect. Join our family today and embark on a journey of continuous learning.

Welcome to Math Concentration

Hello, My name is Wanda Collins. I am a teacher and devoted mother of three beautiful children: Camia(7), Ciara(5), and Chris, Jr.(2). I love life, being spontaneous, reading, learning new things, and staying busy. My favorite pastime is browsing the internet while eating a snack. I am currently pursuing an M.B.A at Nova Southeastern University.

I have been in education for the past 9 years and I am passionate about teaching.

In addition, Math Concentration was created to provide free tutoring and homework help to middle school students struggling with math. We offer homework help forums, groups, and an online classroom tutoring equipped with a virtual whiteboard. During our online class session, students can ask questions via chat or call in with our meeting number. You can schedule a tutoring session Mon-Fri from 7pm-9pm

I look forward to collaborating with you!

How Cool is This Math App?!?!?

Posted on January 25, 2015 at 4:32pm 0 Comments

I stumbled upon the following math app today and its super cool. I personally wouldn't encourage to totally depend on this app when doing your homework but to use it as a checking tool to see if you got the correct answer just as you would with a calculator. You also have to pay $2.99.…

Finding fun activities to implement in your classroom may seem like a daunting task but it really isn't. With the vastness of internet content, resources are at our disposable with a click of the mouse and typing specific key words into Google's search bar takes less than a nanosecond...lol Even if you feel like you don't have enough time in your day outside of work to look for outside resources, I have done the work for you. I hope your students enjoy the following…

Unconventional Ways to Teach Math

Posted on January 17, 2015 at 5:00pm 0 Comments

Before we delve into the topic of "Unconventional Ways to Teach Math," let us define what unconventional is. According to Dictionary.com, "Unconventional is not conforming to accepted rules or standards." Therefore, when someone is taking a stand in order to be unconventional they refuse to conform to what society may deem normal. Many times we get confused with what exactly normal is. For example, we may consider a person who has piercings and tattoos all over…
