# Global Shark Tracker- Motivate Your Math Lessons

I went to a workshop and learned about this awesome website: OCEARCH. It tracks sharks every move. As far as education goes, they provide lesson plans for grades 3-8. The lessons focus on the following concentration areas: Oceanography, Biology, Physics, Math (Grades 6-8), and Chemistry. It is a non-profit organization and the website has an enormous amount of information dedicated to great white sharks and "other large apex predators." This website allows researches and institutions to obtain invaluable data on the movement, biology and health of sharks to ensure their future and at the same time bring awareness to the public.

OCEARCH is a leader in open source research, sharing data in near-real time for free through the Global Shark Tracker, enabling students and the public to learn alongside PhDs.

Questions on OCEARCH and its expeditions, Global Shark Tracker and STEM education curriculum can be directed to Info@OCEARCH.org. Press or appearance requests can be emailed to Press@OCEARCH.org.

# Math Limerick

Question: Why is this a mathematical limerick?

( (12 + 144 + 20 + 3 Sqrt[4]) / 7 ) + 5*11 = 92 + 0 .

A dozen, a gross, and a score,
plus three times the square root of four, divided by seven, plus five times eleven, is nine squared and not a bit more.

---Jon Saxton (math textbook author)

Presentation Suggestions:
Challenge students to invent their own math limerick!
