It is that time of year again. Well, I'm speaking directly to my educator pals. The time of year where we plan for the first days of school and beyond. One important part of our preparation is planning in advance for future emergencies we have no control over. In order to ensure our classroom runs smoothly while we are out we create some elaborate emergency lessons with the hope our substitute teacher will deliver them effectively. During the first week of school we are swamped with meetings and trying to get our room together that we end up spending a great deal of time at home  getting our lesson plans together. I have taken the liberty of compiling a list of websites where teachers have shared their emergency lesson plans. I hope this helps you out and saves you some time….time you can spend with your family and friends. Have a awesome school year!!!

Sam J Shah :  She provides some really good emergency lesson plan ideas for a Algebra II and Calculus class. Go visit Continuous everywhere but Differentiable No Where

The Algebra Tool Box's favorite plan to leave for a sub is the FACEing Math activity because It takes most of my students two 42-minute periods to complete, is self-explanatory and easy for classroom management, provides review for students of concepts we’ve previously studied, and gives me great pictures to put on my walls! See photos below and be sure to drop by their website on how you can get this activity. has a great way to prepare emergency lesson plans. She uploads prerecoreded written and audio instructions onto a single file than stores it on a flash drive she leaves for the substitute to play for her students. She also has links to puzzles... Fun Math Facts:

Math Limerick

Question: Why is this a mathematical limerick?

( (12 + 144 + 20 + 3 Sqrt[4]) / 7 ) + 5*11 = 92 + 0 .

A dozen, a gross, and a score,
plus three times the square root of four, divided by seven, plus five times eleven, is nine squared and not a bit more.

---Jon Saxton (math textbook author)

Presentation Suggestions:
